Welcome to Nano EnC Lab!

Nano EnC Lab. is a Laboratory in the Materials Science & Engineering at Ajou University.

Our research is directed to engineering new, inexpensive, and solution-processable nanomaterials and implementing them into high performance energy & catalysis devices. We are especially driven by the goal of inexpensive solar energy conversion. We focus on materials systems with sufficient earth abundance and environmental compatibility, and we employ techniques that are highly scalable and economically feasible.
The approaches are multidisciplinary, involving expertise and knowledge in materials science, chemistry, physics, optoelectronics and electrochemistry...

All-oxides Tandem PEC Cell with STH 1%

  • Synthesis of CuO sharp-edged nanoflake array (SNA) via two-step oriented attachment process.
  • Dramatic reduction of a light reflection loss at visible-to-near infrared region.
  • Improved charge transport and transfer properties than the  nanoparticle-based film counterparts.
  • Optimized CuO SNA exhibits a record photocurrent density (∼6.3 mA/cm2 at 0.0 V vs. RHE)
  • Demonstration of bias-free solar water-splitting with TiO2 branched-nanorod-array photoanode (STH ∼ 1%)
  • published in Applied Surface Science  (IF: 6.707, JCR: 2.381%, 2022.02.09)

High Entropy Alloy of CoCuFeNiMn for Electrocatalytic water splitting

  • The first time, high-entropy-alloy (HEA) introduced as a model bifunctional electrocatalyst in neutral-pH water splitting
  • Hall voltage measurement revealed 68 times higher electrical conductivity of HEA than mixed metal powders
  • At neutral-pH, the most favorable reaction kinetics, promising activity, and stability was obtained at a higher current density
  • HEA electrocatalyst, CuCoNiFeMn, can efficiently split H2O to H2 in pH-universal media
  • published in Journal of Materials Chemistry A  (IF: 12.732, JCR: 6.579%)
